A lesson in pricing

So I see a lot of boards for sale at the big box stores for pretty cheap prices. But what are you getting for your money? What finish is on the board? How well is it built? I recently took a board and bowls from my cousin after she showed me how the "finish" came off after one use! What finish would come off I wondered. Well, I probably would not want to eat it, that's for sure. Anyway, I took them from her, sanded them down, filled some knot holes(another issue) and finished them with food safe Mineral Oil. I know you can eat that! Take a look at the pics. First pic is what it looked like after one use, then sanded and oiled. The last two are finished and I burned the letter "P" on it for them and put feet on the bottom of the board.
